Raman instruments are used to identify and break down the chemical composition of physical materials based on the inelastic scattering of monochromatic light obtained when the material or sample is exposed to a light source, usually a laser source. The resulting pattern obtained gives a unique fingerprint or pattern that allows the user to match it with existing patterns and identify the composition of the sample.
