Reusable-disposable needle based suture passers have a reusable hand piece and disposable nitinol needles. Often, the reusable hand piece is sold for a steeply discounted price with the purchase of the disposable nitinol needles. Products in Arthrex’s Scorpion™ product family are classified as reusable-disposable suture passers.
Reusable-penetrating suture passers can be reused on a regular basis. Products in Arthrex’s BirdBeak® product family are classified as reusable-penetrating suture passers.
The disposable-retrieving suture passers are completely disposable with a nitinol wire in the device. Products in Arthrex’s SutureLasso™ product family are classified as disposable-retrieving suture passers.
Depending on the surgeons’ preference and surgery being performed, each type can be effectively used in arthroscopic procedures. While the reusable-disposable needle-based suture passers comprise over half of the total market, all three segments are in equilibrium with no significant market trending.
